As an award - winning author, chef, television personality, cuisine and culture expert, and educator, Amy Riolo makes frequent appearances on numerous television and radio programs both in the United States and abroad.

Amy, an Italian American of Calabrian descent, also created and appeared weekly in ninety second cooking videos entitled "Culture of Cuisine" which air onnationally syndicated news shows on 28 different channels across the United States, totaling a reach of over 300 million people. The Best And Only Diet Book You Need!

Chef Amy Riolo, of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, is no stranger to the writing and crafting of an exquisite cookbook. The Ultimate Mediterranean Diet showcases her passion for not only food and culture but for educating her readers.

In the beginning of each new food topic she shares the history and nutritional value of these foods. One of my favorite excerpts from her book is in the vegetable section, �€œWhen organic vegetables are ripe and in season, or cooked to perfection�€”with their natural sugars coaxed out of them and combined with other savory ingredients�€”eating healthy becomes a labor of love. It�€™s one of the reasons why the Mediterranean diet is so popular.�€

Vivid luscious pictures of her dishes are woven throughout the book. Then as you flip from one healthy delicious recipe to the next you will find a �€œMediterranean Tradition�€ fact that relates to the dish itself or a main ingredient.

This is not your average diet book telling you to not eat white foods, measure your sugar intake or count your calories. The term diet can deter some people who have come to associate the word with the plethora of fad diets that have graced bookshelves across the country. Chef Riolo�€™s diet book focuses primarily on healthy dishes in general that combine ingredients that are nutrition rich.

Being a huge fan of salmon, I knew the Citrus-Marinated Salmon with Fennel Cream would be the first dish I�€™d prepare. I had not got around to experimenting with fennel in my home cooking adventures, however, I was aware of its digestive health benefits and fresh taste. There is never a better time than the present to learn how to cook a new vegetable. I loved the citrus sauce and drizzled it over the final dish. Her instructions were easy to follow and afterward I felt confident to experiment with fennel for future dishes. This salmon dish satisfied my palate and I felt good about the variety of ingredients and their nutritional value. I am looking forward to making more dishes!

If you are tired of diet cookbooks that restrict you from eating certain foods or simply love Mediterranean food, I highly recommend The Ultimate Mediterranean Diet by Chef Amy Riolo. Her creativity using common Mediterranean ingredients in a unique way is extraordinary.

I have cooked several dishes from this book and my family loved them all. I really love that the dishes are not time consuming to prepare and that I can find all the ingredients quite easily. I love all of her books but I think this one is my most favorite.

Amy has done it again!

Wow! I think this is my favorite Amy Riolo book to date. Beautifully photographed with recipes to match, I love this new book by Amy as it captures the Mediterranean experience on every luscious page. You know I won't even tell you which recipe to start with, I just threw a dart and tried several and they were all outstanding. But what I love most about Amy is her ability to make you feel like you are in her kitchen and the two of you are having a lovely conversation- her books are that personal. It's rare and its special.
Add this delightful book to your collection and you will cook from it often. And on top of this I should know how useful and right on target this book is- I'm a nutritionist!

I would caution readers that this is not a book that you will feel good about reading

While this book deals with many disturbing subject matters (including child abuse, child sexual abuse, and voyeurism, just to name a few), I felt that it was worth the read. I would caution readers that this is not a book that you will feel good about reading. It doesn't have a happy ending, or even a particularly just ending. However, I felt that Jack Ketchum did an excellent job writing this book. You almost feel like you're part of the problem, taking a backseat in observing the abuse taking place. I realize this sounds awful, and I don't think this book is for everyone. However, as someone who works with the victims of child abuse on a daily basis, I feel that this book is a necessary and useful depiction of how easily people can become abusers.

Excellently Written but too disturbing for me.

I couldn't finish it. I was looking for more of a classic horror scary book. This book wasn't scary in the traditional sense, it was just very disturbing in the whole "humans are the real monsters" sense. I got about half way through it before I had to stop. It reminded me of "A child called it" honestly and that book was disturbing too. Ruth's descent into madness was interesting but I couldn't stomach the vile and evil thing she did and allowed the kids to do to Meg. For what appears to be no reason (granted the reasoning may become apparent in later chapters). It saddens me that this was based on a true story and I'm sure things like this or worse have happened to people but I can't stomach it. 3.5 stars as it was excellently written just too intense/disturbing for me.

Interesting and disturbing read.

I'm not really sure what I can say that others haven't already said. This book is a great [yet horrifying] take on a famous murder. The mob mentality aspect of this crime has haunted and fascinated me for years and since I already loved Jack Ketchum's work, I had to pick up this book as well.

I personally love Ketchum's writing. I'm not an authority on writing, I'm a terrible writer myself, but I think he's very talented and he obviously cares about writing coherently and descriptively.

I rated it 4 stars because it's not completely accurate to the true story it tells. It embellishes and changes some events, and if I recall correctly, even adds a couple that didn't occur in life. That said, I realize it's not meant to be an autobiography or anything, but I feel that the crime was terrible enough without exaggerating it to be even more unthinkable. It somehow cheapens or trivializes the events by showing how much worse they could have been.

This book is not for the faint of heart. Really, none of Ketchum's work is, but it's worth repeating. You will not be able to finish this book if graphic violence disturbs you.

A must have for people who do not want to spend $800 for the SHRM material

I didn't want to spend the $800 for the SHRM online material, so a friend recommended this book and I'm glad I took his advice. I used this book exclusively for studying for my SPHR exam and passed on the first try! Like some of the other reviewers said, it's a little wordy and can be confusing because information is repeated throughout the book, but if you're able to get past that and focus on the pertinent iformation, this is a great study guide because not only does it provide all the information that's in the SHRM material, but it goes further by providinig background information and "real life" stories and case studies to help with your comprehension of the material. The online tests and flash cards are also great tools.

The only negative that I have with the book is that it doesn't prepare you for the "type" of questions on the exam which are scenario based and highly subjective. To prepare for these typ of questions, I would recommend getting a study guide that has "test prep" questions with an explanation of the answers. I got one for $9.99 on Amazon, and it did an amazing job with preparing me with how to answer these type of questions.

Review of PHR/SPHR Study Guide

I come from a resourcing and recruitment background and decided to study for the PHR exam as a means to broaden my knowledge and add a qualification to my resume. I bought this book after great reviews by other users thinking that it could be used as the main basis upon which to study for the PHR exam. I read the book from cover to cover twice, condensed and summarized, took the chapter review tests and all the PHR online test practices that came with the accompanying DVD in which I was scoring full marks by the time it came for me to take the exam. I failed the exam yesterday and whilst I don't hold this book accountable for my performance, I would say to those who are using it without broad practical HR working experience and/or without the help of other study techniques, that you may find that it isn't enough. Most of the questions in my PHR exam were dissimilar to those in the book - sometimes using terminology I was unfamiliar with, and were often ambiguous where it was difficult to choose a 'best' answer because in the real world it would have depended so much on the situation. Some of the questions drilled down into detail that isn't covered in the book. I left the exam yesterday feeling disappointed and whilst as I say, I don't 'blame' the result on this book, I would like to warn students who do not have a breadth of personal HR experience not to pin all your studying on this one book.

Great Study Book - Only reason I passed

I bought this book because I didn't want to purchase the SHRM $800 plus study guide. I made notes from each chapter took all of the exams and read all of the answers in the appendix. The one thing I appreciate the most about this book was the answer keys. Each question not only gave you the answer but the reason why it was right and gave the definition or reason why the other answers were not correct. I really believed this helped me pass my exam because I was not only able to practice sample questions but also able to study the other terms in the same sitting.

The book is a bit wordy but I really liked the real life scenarios it had through out the chapters and if you are already working in HR (as you should) you can make your own real life connections to the text. What I did not like was the fact that the book repeated information through out the book. It would start talking about a topic and go more in depth in the following chapters.

My study method was to take notes from each chapter (read approx 10 pages a day M-F) then the last month prior to my exam I studied my notes chapter at a time M-W. Nine days before the exam I studied a chapter a day and ended each day with taking the chapter exam. I took the exam once checked my answers, then studied the answer key and retook the exam about 30-60 mins later. The next day I would take the exam again and study the next chapter, take that chapter's exam, study the answer key and retake the exam 30-60 mins later. The cycle repeated until I was done with chapters 2-8. On the day before the exam I retook every chapter exam; studied my notes from the first section of the book (essentially I had transcribed the answer key from the pre-test) and took the exam then I checked the answers and then retook the exam 30-60 mins later. I did not do too well on any of my first attempts and thought for sure I was going to fail my exam.

I am proud to say that I sat for my exam today and I passed. In order to pass you need an understanding of HR. Simply studying terms and court cases will not do it. This book will give you that and if you can embrace the knowledge and not simply learn for the sake of learning and passing the test this book should be all you need. I was unable to utilize any of the online tools this book offers because my computer is bobo and I was able to pass using only this book and the practice test it contains.

Outstanding book! Highly recommended!

Game Development Principles is a definite must-read for both newcomers to the game development industry and experienced developers.

Game Development Principles is comprehensive, providing a big-picture look at workflows involved in game development as well as digging deep to illustrate in detail the stages of game development: Basic Design & Brainstorming, Prototyping, Refining Design, Engine Development, Asset Creation, Scripting, Testing and Debugging and Distribution and Marketing.

The author has a wealth of experience and is very careful to share very important tips and tricks he has gained through study and experience. The workflow suggestions and the tips in this book, if learned and practiced, will not only save a developer hours of time but the game produced will be tweaked for performance. In short, you can do it the hard way, by trial and error and tons of time, or, you can save time and follow the guidelines and workflows in Game Development Principles. The principles covered are foundational and cover all methods of development. Regardless of the game engine software you use, the book will save time and help you produce a robust game.

My game engine of choice is Unity 4. If you are just beginning game development, I highly suggest reading Game Development Principles cover to cover and then following up with Unity 4 Fundamentals by Alan Thorn. Reading, studying and applying the workflows in these two books will give you a very solid foundation and help you release a game of your own design.

Finally, Alan Thorn writes in a very comprehensive and thorough style; you get the feeling that he is talking with you, guiding you through the game development process. I highly recommend Game Development Principles; my copy is dog-eared and highlighted with tons of notes already - it will be a reference on my desk for a long time. Thanks!

For example, when a characteristic equation occurs, its roots (the eigenvalues of a matrix) can be found by inspection.

The author of this book is Alan Jeffrey, Emeritus Professor of mathematics at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He has given courses on engineering mathematics at UK and US Universities.

Direct information, some corruption issues

I rather like this book. In my goal to learn more advanced maths, this book has taken on subjects in a straight forward manner. Which is what I expected given the title. The exercises at the end of each chapter helps me to check my knowledge as I progress, even though some of the steps are sometimes implied and not shown (I'm assuming the book assumes I have greater knowledge than I actually have, which is understandable, again based on the title). I will, however, forewarn those using a regular kindle. This book views fine on my Kindle for PC program, but when viewing on my kindle (4th gen), the formulas, which appear to be stored as images to maintain their layout on the page, become corrupt and I find large sections unreadable due to being unable to follow the proofs.

About the Author
Michael Broadbent, one of the world's most experienced winetasters, is a director of Christie's and founder of their internationally renowned wine auction department. He is a former chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine and a past president of the International Wine and Food Society. Michael is the recipient of one of France's highest honours, L'Ordre National du Merite and the rarely bestowed gold medal of the City of Paris. His other awards include the Wine Spectator's Distinguished Service Award (1991) and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Society of Bacchus America (1992), and he was Decanter Man of the Year in 1993. Michael lives in London.

Perfect for someone wanting to learn more about wine

I read about this tasting book in another wine book and I am so glad I bought it! It has really helped me learn more about wine pairings as well how to take better tasting notes. I can't wait to finish the book and try more wine!
