Misleading title and vague contents - No relation to Android N what so ever

I bought this product directly from Pakt publishing. I was shocked to see that this book had nothing to do with Android N. This book mentions about Android Lollipop release in 2014. And minimally touches Marshmellow here and there, but doesn't even describe any differences between the android versions.
When I talked to pakt publishing, they were not even accepting return even though they are clearly cheating with a misleading title.

As some other reviewer noted, they tried to fill in the pages with super big screenshots.

Please don't waste time and money buying this.. The book is not worth at all

The Best Book in Years! An Instant Classic!

The Help is about a young white woman in the early 1960s in Mississippi who becomes interested in the plight of the black ladies' maids that every family has working for them. She writes their stories about mistreatment, abuse and heartbreaks of working in white families' homes, all just before the Civil Rights revolution. That is the story in a nutshell - but it is so much more than just stories.

This is the best book I have read in years! I can't recommend it enough! It is fabulous and I think they will make a movie out of it. I would compare it to the writings of Carson McCullers, Harper Lee, Truman Capote and even Margaret Mitchell. The story grabs you and doesn't let you go. You can smell the melted tar on the Mississippi roads, the toil in the cotton fields, the grits burning on the stove. The theme is the indomitable will of human beings to survive against all odds - because of the color of their skin. It is a heart-wrenching account and you will never fondly remember the times of the Jim Crow laws (if you ever did). The pure, down and out bitchery of the white ladies who become dissatisfied with their maids and proceed to ruin their lives is portrayed vividly. The desperation of the maids' circumstances is truly touching. I have laughed and cried my way through this book and plan to re-read it. I highly recommend this book because it is going to be talked about as the best book of the year.

A new classic has been born. Kathryn Sockett's "The Help" will live in hearts and minds, be taught in schools, be cherished by readers. The three women who form its core, idealistic Skeeter, loving Aibileen, and sarcastic, sassy Minny, narrate their chapters each in a voice that is distinctive as Minny's caramel cake no one else in Jackson, Mississippi, can duplicate.

These stories of the black maids working for white women in the state of Mississippi of the 60s have an insiders' view of child-rearing, Junior League benefits, town gossip, and race relations.

Hilly is the town's white Queen Bee with an antebellum attitude towards race. She hopes to lead her minions into the latter part of the century with the "enlightened" view of making sure every home in Jackson, Mississippi, has a separate toilet for the help. Her crusade is, she says, based on clear hygienic criteria, which will save both blacks and whites from heinous diseases.

Despite the fact that the maids prepare the food, care for the children, and clean every part of every home, privy to every secret, many of the white women look at their black maids as an alien race. There are more enlightened views, especially those of Skeeter, a white, single woman with a college degree, who aspires to more than earning her MRS. Skeeter begins collecting the maids' stories. And the maids themselves find the issue of race humiliating, infuriating, life-controlling. Race sows bitter seeds in the dignity of women who feel they have no choices except to follow their mamas into the white women's kitchens and laundries. Aibilene says, "I just want things to be better for the kids." Their hopes lie in education and improvement, change someday for their children.

There is real danger for the maids sharing their stories as well as danger for Skeeter herself. The death of Medgar Evers touches the women deeply, making them question their work and a decision to forge ahead, hoping their book can be published anonymously and yet not recognized by the very white women they know to the last deviled egg and crack in a dining room table.

The relationships between the maids and the white children, the maids and some kind employers, including "white trash" Cecilia Foot, illuminate the strange history of the South. The love Aibileen shows for Mae Mobley matches the love Skeeter felt as a white child from her maid-nanny Constantine.

There is never a dull moment in this long book. It is compulsively readable while teaching strong truths about the way the United States evolved from a shameful undercurrent of persistent racism to the hopes and dreams of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. Ultimately, will the next generations children learn (and be taught) that skin color is nothing more than a wrapping for the person who lives within?

a treasure of a book

I was lucky enough to come across an advanced reader copy of this book. Set in Mississippi during the civil rights movement, the story is narrated by the three principal characters...Minny and Aibileen, two black maids, and Miss Skeeter, a young, white woman newly graduated from college. The characters are wonderfully developed, as are the historical background and setting. As each character took her turn at narrating, she became my favorite character until the next one took over again.I was torn between not being able to put the book down and not wanting it to end.

Great Book for reference

I am just beginning into the world of shorts.; This book answered alot of questions i had. I would recommend this book to anyone getting into film making. Lots of good resources to draw from.

You have to wade through this to get the good info which there isn't much of

Just a little background so you know where I'm coming from with this review. I've recently gotten into digital video production. I've completed 13 credits in production and editing at a local college. I've been reading as much as I can about the subject. I have 20 years experience in music, so I'm not new to the creative arts. I am also familiar with FCP7 and Vegas Pro. So far, of the books I've read on film production, this one is at the bottom of my list.

I personally would suggest getting area specific books (lighting, camera operation, direction, etc) as opposed to getting this book as it is anything but a complete guide. Basically what this is an academic style overview of the role of the producer, director, editor, and a few other positions in a short film production. There is some useful information in here such as nice condensed bullet point lists about script writing, producing, and directing. Unfortunately these are buried in pages of boring textbook style lectures on each subject where he spends a lot of time tooting his own horn and telling you about who he's worked with. The book starts with a long overview of the history of short films (going way way back), which, although historically interesting, has nothing to do with guiding you towards physically "making" a short film right here and now.

Furthermore, I would estimate that 85% of the resources he talks about in here (casting networks, short film organizations, etc) are all British. As an American, this information was not useful to me. So, if you are hoping to get this type of information for use in the USA, there is some in here, but the vast majority is for the UK.

Reading the cover of this book "The Complete Guide From Script to Screen" I was under the impression that this book would contain information on script writing, camera work, lighting, editing, and composition. The only one of those that it had any information on was script writing.

The book/author also seems to be a bit dated. One of the chapters talks about using mini-DV as a good option, but that has been eclipsed by HD for some time now. He also talks a lot about MTV playing some huge role in how young film makers are making films now. Really, MTV? MTV is pretty passe at this point. Things like Youtube (which he also talks about a good amount) are much more in the mainstream than MTV. I don't know anybody that watches MTV any more (and I know a lot of young people). MTV was in the spotlight in the 80's and 90's. He just seems a bit out of touch with the times.

There is some good info in here about marketing and networking as well as how to work well with others. The way he presents the information about the roles of directors, producers, editors, etc is good reading.

Overall, I would have given it a better rating if I hadn't been disappointed in this item not being a "Complete Guide From Script to Screen". In fact, if this was the only book you had, you might tbe able to figure out how to write a script (minus any info about formatting, brainstorming, writing dialogue), but you will have no idea how to use any of your equipment (technically or artistically).

My suggestions for better reading would be: Barry Braverman's "Video Shooter", "Lighting For DV and TV" by John Jackman, "Writing Short Scripts" by William H. Philips, "Setting Up Your Shots" by Jeremy Vineyard, "Film Directing Cinematic Motion" by Steven Katz, "FCP7 Apple Pro Training Series" by Diana Weynand, and "On Film Editing" by Edward Dmytryk. - These would be the complete guide to actually "MAKING" a short (or feature) film.

I repeat, you will find nothing in here about shooting, composition, lighting, or editing. You'll find out a little about what the director, producer, director of photography, and editor do, but not much about how to do it.

This would be better titled "A Brief History of Short Films and an Overview of the Professional Positions Involved in Making Them - and a Little Bit About Script Writing".

About the Author

Barry W. Lavay, PhD, is a professor of adapted physical education at California State University at Long Beach. He has authored or coauthored more than 15 texts and chapters and more than 60 juried articles in physical education and special education journals. He has made close to 100 presentations at the international, national, regional, and state levels and given numerous seminars and workshops.

Lavay has spent four decades as a university professor in physical education teacher education and as a public school physical education teacher. He has been a member of SHAPE America since 1973 and has been a fellow member of the AAHPERD Research Consortium since 1989. He served on the steering committee for the Adapted Physical Education National Standards Project from 1992 to 1997. He also was a member of the California AHPERD Council on Adaptive Physical Education for five years.

In 2011 Lavay received the William A. Hillman Distinguished Service Award from the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities. He enjoys spending time with his family, and he runs and cycles in his leisure time.

Ron French, EdD, CAPE, is professor emeritus in the department of kinesiology at Texas Woman’s University in Denton. In 1971 Dr. French received his doctorate in special education and special physical education from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Since 1981 he has taught a graduate course on behavior management in physical education and sport. A former public school physical educator, he has presented at more than 100 workshops, conferences, and conventions and written or coauthored more than 72 articles and two manuals on behavior management. Dr. French has earned such awards as the TWU Carnaro Professor Award and the Texas Piper Professor Award.

Hester L. Henderson, PhD, taught adapted physical education for one year at Iowa State University and then joined the faculty in the department of exercise and sport science at the University of Utah, where she has taught since 1983.

She has written and administered 26 grants, primarily in professional preparation, totaling $6.2 million. She has authored or coauthored 41 manuscripts and has coauthored or been a major contributor to eight books and four book chapters. She was a major contributor to the revision of the first edition of the book Adapted Physical Education National Standards and the Adapted Physical Education National Standards Study Guide.

Dr. Henderson has made more than 100 presentations at all levels. In 1999 Dr. Henderson developed and still administers two service learning projects at the University of Utah. She also started the physical education program at the Pingree Learning Center for Children with Autism.

Since 1992 she has served on the executive committee and helped develop the Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS). She is a member of the national, regional, and state Associations of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance as well as the National Consortium of Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities.

Dr. Henderson has received the University Faculty Community Service Award, Select 25 Award, University Beacon of Excellence Award, University Distinguished Faculty Service Award, Hollis Fait Scholarly Contribution Award, and College of Health Distinguished Mentor Award. In her free time she enjoys playing soccer, running, biking, and snowshoeing.

Bugliosi, best known as Charles Manson's prosecutor, spent more than 20 years writing this defense of the Warren Commission's conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the slaying of President Kennedy, but his obsession has produced a massive tome that's likely to overwhelm most readers. At times, the author seems determined to present every detail his researches revealed, even if it doesn't add to the overall picture (like a footnote on Elvis sightings). Further, while Bugliosi says even serious conspiracy theorists don't claim the FBI or Secret Service were involved, he devotes chapters to each. The book's structure—it's organized by subject, such as theories about the role of the FBI, the KGB or anti-Castro Cubans—leads to needless repetition, and, for an author who excoriates conspiracy theorists, charging them with carelessness and making wild accusations, Bugliosi is not always temperate in his language; for example, twice he makes the nonsensical claim that some Warren Commission critics "were screaming the word conspiracy before the fatal bullet had come to rest." His decision to devote twice as many pages to critiquing Oliver Stone's movie JFK as to his chapter on organized crime (identified by the chief counsel of the House Select Committee on Assassination as the likely conspirators) is a curious one, as is the choice to open the book with a dramatic re-creation of events surrounding the assassination rather than a straightforward chronology of the relevant facts. Moreover, Bugliosi does not always probe whether individuals who are the sole source for certain facts (for example, Oswald's widow, Marina) had any motive to lie. Bugliosi's voluminous endnotes are on an accompanying CD. Gerald Posner's 1993 Case Closed made most of the same points in a much more concise way. 32 pages of illus. (May)

This weighty book (its pages number sixteen hundred and twelve) claims to be the final word on the assassination of President Kennedy. It is as if Bugliosi, who prosecuted the Manson murders, intended to overwhelm with sheer, footnoted bulk. But in the way that others have "proved" conspiracies, Bugliosi "proves" yet again the guilt of Lee Harvey Oswald. He does this by reëxamining familiar evidence but also by dismissing preposterous theories, such as one that J. Edgar Hoover masterminded the murder to keep his job. Bugliosi steps less certainly in considering the work of the House Select Committee on Assassinations, which, in 1978, concluded that J.F.K. was "probably" killed as the result of a plot. Citing a National Research Council study, Bugliosi brushes aside the committee’s acoustic evidence suggesting that four shots were fired in Dallas (a fourth shot would confirm a second gunman); he is uncomfortable with a subsequent analysis, by the British Forensic Science Society, which challenged the N.R.C. opinion. The "bible" of the Kennedy Assassination. Fascinating arguments and thorough investigation of the events leading up to and after November 22, 1963. Covers and debunks all the conspiracy nonsense. 1600 pages .....Extensive and Entertaining. Biases are explained. Leaves NO ROOM for silly scenarios that have no grounds. Once and for all time.....John F Kennedy was murdered by a crazed, delusional, self-important nobody; a LONE GUNMAN. Vincent Bugliosi, thank you for leaving us with this masterpiece before you left us. The abridged Audio CD is a good listen also.

TOUR DU FORCE!!!!

If I could give this book a ZILLION stars I would. Bigger than the Warren Report, this is THE definitive book on the JFK assassination. Bugliosi knocks this subject matter out of the ball park. I had previously seen the Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald documentary and knew Bugliosi would be very thorough. He proves Oswald's guilt as JFK's assassin WITHOUT a shadow of doubt.

The definitive book with new insights on an over-studied historic event.

Written very very well, and very detailed. Bugliosi was as great a writer as he was a prosecutor. The book is very heavy - less thorough minded readers may want to start with FOUR DAYS IN NOVEMBER, his moment by moment account of the assassination itself. FOUR DAYS...is not just a rehash of the usual anecdotes and schedule juxtapositions of the main characters.

RECLAIMING HISTORY also serves as a full flown biographies of Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby - insight into the type of lives lived in mid-20th century America not usually discussed in history books.

This book saved my boyfriends life

First of all, This book is not just for Punks! It's an incredible compilation of real life stories dealing with mental health and addiction issues, I purchased this book along with his other book "Better Days Ahead" for my boyfriend after he attempted suicide. Any conventional groups, doctors and therapists did not give him what he needed to persevere and put in a good fight. With the help of Craig's books, my boyfriend was able to get the help that he needed, inspiration and strength to finally get sober. It is very relatable and I strongly recommend it. I can safely and proudly say that this book saved my boyfriends life.

Great collection of writings by the punks, for everyone

There’s an inscription on a plaque inside the base of the Statue of Liberty that bares on it a sonnet called “The New Colossus.” Written by noted American poet Emma Lazarus, the inscription is probably best known for its containing the phrase “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Perhaps, then, it’s no coincidence that Lady Liberty’s trademark spiked crown has been adopted in headdress form by a great many in the punk rock community. This scene has a long, well-worn history of serving as a last bastion of acceptance for people that have been marginalized by the mainstream, viewed as “weird” or “different” or “strange” or, of course, “crazy.”

Enter Craig Lewis. The Boston-area based writer and zine publisher and punker and mental health professional, who’s been profiled on these pages before, has compiled a book called “You’re Crazy – First-Hand Accounts of Mental Illness, Addiction and Trauma from the Punk Rock Scene.” Published by his own Better Days Recovery Press, the book clocks in just shy of 150-pages; by all means a more-than manageable one day read. But instead of Lewis trying to tell his subjects’ stories, the two-dozen-plus stories come straight from the horse’s mouths.

Perhaps the most compelling part of the compilation is that twenty-five authors carry with them twenty-five different stories and twenty-five different styles of conveying their messages. Some come across as nervous; rightfully so, as this may the first time that many tell their stories outside a therapist’s office – or at all. Some authors seem obviously well-versed at sharing, and are able to apply a modicum of humor to what can obviously be dark subject matter. If you’ve ever been in the halls of an AA or NA meeting, some of the stories may sound familiar in a “names are changed but the stories are real” way, with authors presenting the mental health version of a textbook drunkalogue. It would be unfair, or perhaps unnecessary, to give reviews of each individual story, as the goal of many such stories is progress, not perfection. Still, there are some noteworthy highlights.

“Disease,” written by Jessica Rosengrant, serves as my favorite read, both contextually and stylistically. Though this may serve as a spoiler, Rosengrant’s story plays as an allegory, with her struggles with addiction serving as her best friend, and ultimately her worst enemy. Matt Hollender’s “Me Or The World” is more of an essay or a think-piece which serves as general good advice for well-living. “Pat’s Story,” by Pat Thielges, starts with a bang, almost literally, as it begins with an honest description of the author’s unsuccessful suicide attempt. The story that follows, “More Than Just A Tag” by an author known only as Q, is arguably the most compelling read. The author tells a tale of being, by many accounts, a “normal kid,” who somehow ended up in the care of the state mental health system, only to eventually “become sick.” Particularly humbling is the story’s post-script, which reveals that sometimes we’re at our most vulnerable when we feel like we’re at our most stable point.

The common thread weaving all of these stories together is punk rock. The husband and wife duo Eric Blitz and Jenny “DevilDoll” Gonzalez-Blitz tell very different tales (stylistically and materially) and yet wound up together, firmly entrenched in the local community. While the acceptance and judgement-free zones provided by the world of punk rock in many, if not most, cases are seen a a guiding light, it’s important to note, there’s also an overarching need for the scene to continue to take care of its own and and to not stab the backs of the most vulnerable (the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free) and indeed the most passionate amongst us. It’s a necessary looking-glass into our world and the characters in it, and can be an inspirational piece that may hopefully serve to shed a light on one of the proverbial elephants in the room; we may or may not be crazy, but we have each other!

A daring compendium of personal stories of addiction and mental ...

A daring compendium of personal stories of addiction and mental illness, written by punks in recovery, for punks in recovery, and edited by a punk in recovery, Craig Lewis. The (real life) tales run the gamut both in their length (or lack thereof) and feeling (maddening and horrific, to empowering and insightful). A few of the contributed names may even surprise you, with more than one band or zine of the author's raising my eyebrows several times. The candor throughout comes off as refreshing and "real" rather than a ploy for attention, these people ARE real, and lived or continue to live REAL lives where their addictions and mental issues (many times going hand in hand) very nearly destroyed those lives. I think this is a "self help" book that speaks realistically to people in general, not just punks, and hopefully will inspire those that seek it to affect positive and healthy changes in their own lives.
